WALKWAY AWNINGS

WALKWAY AWNINGS
Walkway Awnings are best suited to coverage of the pathway leading from the road or pavement to the main front entrance of a hotel, apartment block or shopping mall. The most common use for a Walkway Awning would be to protect guests from the rain as they are off-loading their luggage from a taxi at the kerb, paying their fare, and then negotiating the approach to the hotel front entrance, possibly aided by a bell-boy. This can often be a pretty nightmarish experience during our usual British weather conditions, especially where the hotel entrance approach is particularly long, and the baggage may be somewhat excessive. However, with the addition of a Walkway Awning, also known on occasion as an Approach Awning, this experience can be transformed into a pleasure. The custom shaped frame is constructed from our standard Dutch Blind extrusion, set on to lateral rails that are supported at regular intervals by simple posts which are attached securely to the ground. Providing we have adequate ground fixing points, there is no limit to the projection that we can build our Walkway Awnings up to. We can pre-assemble modular sections in our factory prior to transportation to site, and then link these together and infill the missing panels on site after erection, giving the appearance of one single awning. A few years ago we installed a fixed Walkway awning with an overall dimension of 6 meters wide, 12 meters projection, with a 1.5 meter radius curve height, on the north-east coast of Scotland, using just two Ford Transit vans for transportation to site. Constructed in four sections with final assembly in-situ, attached to thirteen decorative upright posts, and with beautiful signwriting applied in gold leaf to the dark forest green acrylic fabric, this awning became so eyecatchingly iconic locally that an image of it was adopted as the hotel's official logo.
2010 Comparative Price Guide - 2m x 4m Fixed Walkway - £1295.00 (inc vat)

This is a very typical example of a hotel Walkway Awning. The six upright steel support posts attached securely to the ground and to the low retaining walls have lateral extension bars at the top, enabling the awning to significantly overlap the pathway and therefore provide even more protection from the weather.

In order to reduce the number of upright support posts, we have pre-fabricated here a strong box-section steel framework, onto which we have fixed another standard Walkway Awning constructed from a relatively shallow radius extrusion curve. The awning is finished on this occasion in Sunbrella striped acrylic fabric.
