PLANTATION SHUTTERS

Plantation Shutters are essentially a throwback to our Colonial days where there was a need to combine all three elements of Privacy, Shade and Security. This is why they are often referred to as Colonial Shutters, or sometimes also American Shutters, as they were gradually rolled out around the world by the British Colonists. They can be thought of in their most basic form as a louvre door that has movable louvres, however, as a top quality and relatively expensive made-to-measure product, they are by no means in the same league, being far stronger and with an immensly superior finish. The high quality Basswood timber frames are custom-built in a variety of styles that are then hinged together to provide a series of folding doors which, when locked closed, are strong enough to provide a relatively good degree of Security. Set within these frames, either in a cafe style, or sometimes tier-upon-tier, are a series of solid wooden louvres which can be tilted from an open to closed position by a manual rod, connected to each louvre down the centre. Both Privacy and Shading are afforded by the angle control of the louvres, whilst security is also retained by the fact that the moving louvres are permanently fixed securely in place. Louvre widths available are 48mm, 63mm and 89mm, all of which come in a good choice of colours and a superb standard of finishing and craftmanship. Plantation Shutters are not the cheapest of options for your window dressing, however, the end result will look amazing, and prove to be a long lasting and worthwhile addition to the appearance and value of your home.
