CUSTOMERS OWN FABRIC

We have many years of experience of making both Roller Blinds, as well as a variety of Softshade products, such as Roman Blinds, Austrians and Curtains, from fabrics supplied to us off the roll in their natural form. The Blindmakers secret to making a Roller Blind is firstly to ensure that the fabric is perfectly square to both width and drop, and secondly to ensure that it is sufficiently flat and stable so as to roll correctly around the roller mechanism. We have two methods of stabilising, or stiffening, the raw fabric supplied to us. We can either spray the fabric with a PVA based stiffening solution and hang overnight to dry, or we can iron a heat-reactive backing fabric, known as Vilene, on to the rear surface of the fabric. Either method will create a finished fabric that is both stable for the purpose of rolling, as well as sealing the fibres of the fabric so that it does not fray when cut. Providing care is taken to ensure that the right type of fabric is selected to use for this purpose, the sealing of the fabric allows us to make Roller Blinds without side hems, therefore producing a neater roll. As a general rule, printed stripes and geometric patterns should be avoided, as they can often clash with the squaring of the cloth, and ordinary plain cotton fabrics are certainly best suited to the stabilising process. But we're prepared to look at anything, so if you've found a special fabric with which you want to co-ordinate your curtains, table-cloth, lampshade and Roller Blind, just send us a small sample and we will test-spray it and advise you as to it's suitability. The end result is often spectacular, and always unique.

CUSTOMERS OWN FABRIC 1

Here is an example of a fabric chosen by a customer from a fabric shop and supplied to us off the roll, which we have then used to manufacture a Roman Blind with a matching pair of curtains. The Roman Blind is made with blackout lining and the curtains with standard lining, providing excellent variable light control.

CUSTOMERS OWN FABRIC 2

We have furnished this private members club in the West End of London with Roller Blinds manufactured from an exclusive fabric that was designed and woven specifically for this project. This red and cream striped Edward Bulmer fabric was only produced as a limited run for a selection of soft furnishings.
