AGORA CAFE SYSTEMS
The Arquati Agora Cafe Awning (and it's twin sister, the Berso) is an extremely elegant street-scene cafe-bar awning with a modern variation in design. The fabric that this awning is made from is not acrylic cloth, but a semi-rigid fully waterproof Pvc. When the awning is retracted, instead of the fabric rolling around a tubular roller, the individual panels fold and hang, similar to a roman blind or Wintergarden awning. When the awning is extended, there are intermediate rigid aluminium tracks in between each fabric panel which are attached at each end to the tension cord drive system. As the drive mechanism pulls these tracks forward, each fabric panel inbetween is pulled taut and rigid, thus allowing perfect rain run-off all round the whole surface area of the awning. The difference between the two is that the Berso is a simple and functional version, available with a framework in either aluminium box section or treated timber; whereas the Agora is a more fanciful and decorative system, which incorporates a full water-drainage guttering system all round the awning, whereby rainwater run-off is dispersed via the front decorative upright ground posts, with optional curtains, tie-backs, side curtains, modesty screens or wind barriers. The Agora Cafe System is available in a perfect range of made-to-measure dimensions to suit any cafe or restaurant.
The Agora Easy shown here is the traditional version of this folding fabric panel blind in it's simplest form, and incorporates a straightforward and robust aluminium framework within which the runners of the blind can slide up and down by way of a simple remote control electric operation.
Here we see the Berso version of the Agora awning system. The side channels and operating mechanisms are the same as the Agora, as is the cassette which houses the roller tube and electrics, however the Berso uses very attractive treated hardwood timber support posts.
This image is essentially the brief we were given by John Sisk Construction to provide retractable sun awnings to the south elevation of the newly rebuilt Weston Super Mare pier, following the devastating fire in 2008. The awnings are just visible on the far left of the picture.
Following lengthy consultation with Angus Meek, the architects for the new pier project, the Arquati Agora awning system was selected and approved as being the best system available to meet the client's requirements for these retractable sun-protection awnings.
Twelve individual Agora awnings, each 3.6m wide by 5.4m projection, were attached neatly and efficiently to a specially prepared I-beam, legs being fixed securely to the new Meranti decking, then linked together and sealed using the clever intermediate gutter channels.
