35mm/50mm SYSTEMS

By far the most popular choice of slat width for todays modern Venetian Blinds is the 25mm slat, particularly because of it's neatness and aesthetic form as well as practical function. However, the wider widths of slat still available do serve a very specific purpose, and can prove to be invaluable within certain applications. Essentially, the wider the width of slat, the greater the degree of rigidity that is created when the slat is formed, ie when it is given it's curvature. Hence the 15mm Micro Venetian is extremely delicate, and by the same token the widest of the slats available, at 50mm, is therefore the most rigid and stable. The 35mm slat comes somewhere in between the 25mm and the 50mm, and the end product can be considered in all ways to be a simple compromise. However the 50mm Venetian Blind particularly comes into it's own in two specific applications. Not only are the slats wider and stronger, but the headrail system used is more robust, as well as the cords being heavier and the components somewhat stronger, thus making the 50mm Venetian Blind a far more practical option for very large windows. Because of the potential wear on the pull cords of a 25mm blind, we would recommend splitting very large window units into several blinds, this having a disadvantage of producing small gaps between the blinds, however, as the 50mm blind is significantly stronger, it is emminently more suited to the larger window. And secondly, because of the wider slat's greater degree of inherent strength, it is far better suited to applications such as school classrooms where, in our experience, because of incorrect operation, lack of care and vandalism, a system that is much less likely to get broken is clearly a far better option.
